Hale Gardens Tennis Club Raises £4,714 for Male Breast Cancer Tattoos
On a day that began with storm clouds and ended in sunshine, the community at Hale Gardens Tennis Club came together to do something extraordinary.
Their charity tournament, held in support of The Nipple Innovation Project, has raised an incredible £4,714. These funds will be ring fenced specifically to support nipple tattoos for men who have experienced breast cancer surgery.
Players, organisers and volunteers showed remarkable commitment, torrential downpours in the morning saw competitors dashing in and out of the clubhouse between matches, yet not a single complaint was heard. As the weather cleared, spirits only lifted further. By the time the final trophy presentation took place that evening, it had been a long day, but one filled with pride.
Mark, who spearheaded the event, reflected on the effort behind it:
“The charity tournament was a brilliant day. Difficult weather conditions until mid day but great weather after that. However the competitors dashed in and out of the clubhouse during the storms with no grumbles and thoroughly enjoyed their day’s tennis.
It took a huge team effort from many people to host the day and I’m immensely proud of them, the club and the club members.
The day started for us at 8am and the tennis finished at around 8pm and then the final trophy presentation took place. It was a very long day, quite exhausting but the club is really proud of its achievement in hosting it, raising awareness of male breast cancer and raising funds for the NiP charity.
I’m simply humbled by the support the club has given me to raise awareness of male breast cancer. It has been a huge undertaking for them.”
This was more than a tennis tournament. It was a statement. Male breast cancer is often overlooked and rarely spoken about. Too many men go through diagnosis and surgery feeling isolated, unsure where to turn for support around body image and reconstruction choices.
The £4,714 raised will directly fund specialist 3D nipple tattoos for men across the UK. For many, this small but significant detail can help restore a sense of confidence and completeness after surgery. It is about choice, dignity and having access to high quality care beyond the hospital setting.
We are deeply grateful to Mark and to every member of Hale Gardens Tennis Club who made this possible. Community led fundraising like this not only generates vital funds, it raises awareness and opens conversations that might otherwise remain unspoken.
From everyone at NiP, thank you for standing with men affected by breast cancer and helping ensure that this service is visible, accessible and available.
